Forest Green Rovers Ladies Football Club was formed at the commencement of season (2002-2003).
The Club committed itself to the introduction of a ladies football team as one of the key
stages in their 'Sports in the Community' Development Plan.
Currently the leading female club in the community, Forest Green Rovers Ladies Football Club
changed their name from Chalford Ladies FC and play their home matches at The Lawn now.
Their squad includes ex County representatives and South West Premier League players.
In their first season as Forest Green Rovers Ladies the team have been very successful, winning
the South West Women's Football League and with it the Pat Sowden Trophy. The ladies have now
been promoted to the South West Combination League, which is a feeder league to the AXA
Women's Premier League.
Forest Green Rovers Ladies Football Club will provide girls and women from South
Gloucestershire with the opportunity
of playing football. Qualified and experienced coaches will enable players to reach
their full potential and the intention is to look to introduce a junior section in due
course. Home matches at The Lawn are played on Sundays with a 2pm. start.
FGR Director, John Clapp, explained:
We have been very impressed with the management team and players of the Ladies Football Club.
They have a mixture of experience, enthusiasm and determination that matches our aspirations for the
development of Forest Green Rovers. They will be fully integrated into the club and contribute to our
involvement with the community at all levels.
Paul Morris, the coach for Chalford Ladies, expressed his delight at the move, saying,
" My aim as a Football Coach is to get the ladies to perform at the highest level possible by developing
their techniques and skills.
With the facilities that are now on offer, by moving the club from Chalford to Forest Green I hope
to see ' Forest Green Rovers Ladies Football Club ' competing on an equal level with other quality
sides and eventually achieving promotion to the higher divisions."
